Bryan Mackowiak

Biographie

Dr. Bryan Mackowiak is a Research Fellow in the Laboratory of Liver Diseases at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He received his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in 2019 where he worked on metabolism-mediated drug-drug interactions in the liver. His current research interests focus on how ethanol and its metabolites potentiate organ damage in alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) and alter ethanol consumption in alcohol-use disorder (AUD). He is the recipient of a NIAAA K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award, and his future laboratory will bridge the gap between ALD and AUD research using animal behavior to study how ethanol metabolites, acetaldehyde-protein adducts, and bile acid homeostasis alter the development of these diseases.
